FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – With the final voting day of the 2024 Provincial General Election a little more than two weeks away, the ballot for Peace River North has decreased by one candidate.

Brennan Wauters, a previously announced fly-in candidate from the Green Party of B.C., failed to meet the signature requirement of the BC Elections Act and will, therefore, not be on the ballot for voters in Peace River North.

Under the BC Elections Act, anyone interested in running as a candidate in an election must collect 75 signatures from electors living in the electoral district where they intend to run.

This must also be done in advance of the September 28th deadline set by Elections B.C. for nominating and registering candidates for the election.

The Green Party announced Wauters as a candidate on September 24th. However, when Elections B.C. announced the official list of candidates for the election, he was not listed for Peace River North.

Wauters is also no longer listed on the Green Party’s official website as a candidate for the current election.

When contacted by Energeticcity.ca on October 3rd, Wauters confirmed that he was not able to register as an official candidate.

“[The Green Party] couldn’t wrangle enough signatures to make the candidacy legitimate,” Wauters explained.

Voters can expect to see incumbent and Independent candidate Dan Davies, Conservative candidate Jordan Kealy, and fly-in NDP candidate Ian McMahon on the ballot for Peace River North MLA.

The Lido Theatre and the Fort St. John Petroleum Association are hosting an All-Candidates Forum on October 9th, and have invited all confirmed candidates to attend to answer questions posed by moderator Curtis Whitford, President of the Petroleum Association, and attendees.

According to Brian Kirschner, owner of the theatre, only Davies and Kealy have confirmed their attendance.

Individuals unable to attend in person who would still like to have their questions answered by candidates can submit their questions to Moose Media ahead of the forum here.
