PGFC lifts Solitary Lake area restrictions
The Prince George Fire Centre (PGFC) has officially lifted its area restriction for the Solitary Lake region of its Fort Nelson Fire Zone.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — The Prince George Fire Centre (PGFC) has officially lifted its area restriction for the Solitary Lake region of its Fort Nelson Fire Zone.
The fire centre announced the restrictions were no longer in effect as of noon on Tuesday, October 1st.
Despite the restrictions being lifted, PGFC staff members say several wildfires in the area remain active, and the potential for increased fire activity remains.

“Even if an Area Restriction has been rescinded, officials still have the authority under the Wildfire Act and its regulations to order anyone to leave the area and, if required, may reinstate an Area Restriction if conditions change,” the announcement reads.
Staff members also urge residents to exercise caution when traveling in or through areas impacted by wildfires.
Risks include “danger trees” that fall over without warning, hot ash pits that can be hard to detect, unstable soil and terrain, increased water runoff, and more.
“In areas that have been severely burned, post-wildfire risks may last for two years or more,” PGFC warns. “However, the increased risk of floods or debris flows in severely burned areas may persist much longer.”
