Northern Health announces overnight ER diversion at Fort St. John Hospital

Northern Health has announced another overnight closure of the Fort St. John Hospital’s emergency department.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Northern Health has announced another overnight closure of the Fort St. John Hospital’s emergency department.

The department will be closed from 4 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7th, to 7 a.m. on Thursday, August 8th.

The health authority posted news of the diversion to Facebook and cited ‘challenges with physician coverage’ as the reason for the closure.

This is the second closure of the emergency department this week and the third overall since the start of August.

Residents requiring life-threatening medical attention are encouraged to call 9-1-1 to get transportation to the nearest available medical facility. 

Those requiring non-urgent medical attention are encouraged to call the Northern Health Virtual Clinic between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. for a family doctor or nurse practitioner.
