FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The North Peace Cattlemen’s Association has launched a new contingency plan for cattle ranchers facing emergency evacuations and wildfires in the Peace River region.
Announced on July 4th, the Emergency Livestock Response Project is intended to improve animal movement, capture, and containment out of emergency situations such as wildfires and evacuations.
The project includes an Emergency Livestock Response Trailer containing necessary equipment for safe livestock extraction, including an MVT Ranch Hand Portable Livestock Handling System.
The project received approximately $96,500 from the province’s Food Security Emergency Planning and Preparedness Fund.
It is intended to help producers protect themselves and their livestock in the event of emergencies such as wildfires, droughts, floods, or emergency roadway accidents.
Energeticcity.ca reached out to the North Peace Cattlemen’s Association for comment but did not hear back by publication time.
