FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — During the May 27th council meeting, the City of Fort St. John awarded Knappett Industries Ltd. a contract to replace aging water valves throughout the city.
The $666,750.00 tender will upgrade multiple aging water valves due to be replaced and install additional hydrants in the city.
The contract is part of a line of projects started in 2009 when council identified $15,000,000 worth of water main looping projects and fire hydrant installation over the next 15 years or $1,000,000 per year.
The report says additional hydrants would increase fire coverage and accommodate a more complete flushing program, allowing for better maintenance.

According to a report to council, $750,000 was allocated for the budget through the water reserves.
The reserves are funded through revenue generated by local residents and businesses for water and sewer services.
