UPDATE: Wildfire discovered west of Dawson Creek now ‘being held’

A wildfire discovered west of Dawson Creek on Tuesday is now being held, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

UPDATE #2 (May 8th – 12:50 p.m.) The fire is now listed as “being held,” according to the BCWS.

UPDATE (May 7th—5:26 p.m.): The Prince George Fire Centre says there is no evacuation order at this time. Fire information officer Adam Nicholas says units have been deployed to battle the fire.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A wildfire discovered west of Dawson Creek on Tuesday is now being held, according to the BC Wildfire Service.

The fire was discovered Tuesday afternoon at the south end of 263 Road, near Groundbirch, about 40 kilometres west of Dawson Creek.

No evacuation orders or alerts were put in place for the area.

“The fire started in farmland and is by some structures,” said Adam Nicholas with Prince George Fire Centre on May 7th. “But none of them are threatened right now.”

Currently, the fire is listed as 7.85 hectares in size. 

The BCWS says the suspected cause of the blaze is Human activity.
