City council approves Fort St. John Elks Speed Skating Club’s request for rent rate reduction

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Council approved a request from the Fort St. John Elks Speed Skating Club to reduce its rental rates in 2024.
Instead of paying the rental rate for use of the entire facility, the club will only be charged for the spaces it uses.
Council also directed staff to reduce costs for all hosts of provincial and national events that promote Fort St. John as a tourism destination.
Reducing rental rates is expected to generate significant economic returns, according to the city’s Chief Administrative Officer, Milo MacDonald.
“Reducing rental fees for the Fort St. John Elks Speed Skating Club will allow them to remain competitive across a national stage, putting on events that contribute positively to the economy,” said MacDonald.
MacDonald also stated that boosting the reputation of Fort St. John and promoting local athletes would also be positive outcomes from this policy.
The Elks have a long tradition of hosting events of all levels at the Pomeroy Sport Centre.
