Three charged after conservation officers spot snowmobile tracks in caribou enclosures

Three snowmobilers were arrested and charged by the B.C. Conservation Officer Service after breaching the Holtzworth Meadow caribou protected area near Tumbler Ridge.

TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. — Three people were arrested and charged for snowmobiling inside a caribou habitat near Tumbler Ridge

According to a Facebook post, the B.C. Conservation Officer Service’s Peace-Liard staff was patrolling caribou closures near Tumbler Ridge via helicopter on March 14th, 2026, when fresh snowmobile tracks were discovered. 

Three individuals were subsequently arrested and charged with snowmobiling within the Holtzworth Meadow enclosure.

According to the B.C. government, areas across the mountain caribou range are closed in order to support population recovery. 

The B.C. Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) says the public should review all closures before heading out to snowmobile. 

All current closures can be found on the B.C. government website.

The identities of the three individuals charged have not yet been released.
