PRRD launches regional growth strategy survey

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) and member municipalities have released a survey as part of a regional growth strategy.

According to the PRRD, the regional growth strategy will be a planning document to guide long-term growth in the Peace over the next 20 years.

The PRRD says strategy development started in August 2023 and will continue through May 2025.

The survey is five questions long and should take approximately ten minutes.

Regional growth strategies are enabled by the provincial Local Government Act, and this one is a four-phase project. 

The plan is intended to help navigate a growing population, new service demands, the regional economy, and a changing climate.

It starts with collecting input from residents in each participating municipality, identifying broad goals on topics like transportation, housing, parks and natural areas, economic development, and regional environmental issues.

Residents, businesses, industry groups, community organizations, the PRRD and member municipalities will be asked for input during the project.

Provincial agencies, including the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, the Agricultural Land Commission and Northern Health, will also be invited to participate.
