FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Dr. Kearney Middle School students and staff are collecting food donations for the Women’s Resource Society during this year’s haunted house.

Jason Boissonneault, a Dr. Kearney teacher helping organize the event, said the haunted house will be held at the North Peace Cultural Centre this year.

“It’s something we’ve been trying to do for a while to get more into the public and get more exposure,” Boissonneault said.

The reason the school changed the venue is due to an incident involving someone coming into the school and throwing rocks at student performers last year.

“The basement is pretty dark. It’s hard to manage who’s in there and out of there unless you’re taking very careful notes,” Boissonneault said.

The teacher said they will send people through the family-friendly haunted house in groups with a guide.

The haunted house is open from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free for kids and will cost $5 or a food donation for adults.

Monetary donations will go towards the school’s theatre program.
