Cops for Cancer Tour de North raises $150K

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Cops for Cancer Tour de North fundraiser finished on Thursday with $150,000 raised for the Canadian Cancer Society.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, the money will go towards childhood cancer research and a national support system for children affected by cancer and their families.

Aaron Dale (Fort St. John RCMP) and Roland Dixon (Fort St. John RCMP) joined nine other law enforcement and emergency services personnel for the 22nd annual Cops for Cancer Tour de North fundraiser.

The tour stretched over 850 kilometres and finished in Prince Rupert on Thursday.

Throughout the tour, riders made stops at numerous events across northern B.C. to raise funds for the society.

“Canadian Cancer Society is the largest national charitable funder of childhood cancer research in Canada and an advocate for better support for families,” said Ninon Daubigeon, Senior Manager of Cops for Cancer. 

“None of the work we do would be possible without the Cops for Cancer program. We are extremely grateful to our first responder partners across the province and for the contributions of our generous sponsors and donors.”

In 2021, the Canadian Cancer Society said 1,050 children aged newborn to 14 were diagnosed with cancer.

Over the last five years, the society has invested $16.4 million in childhood cancer research projects.
