Evacuation order reduced for Red Creek and Stoddart Creek fires

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District has reduced the size of its evacuation order for the Red Creek and Stoddart Creek wildfires.

Based on recommendations from BC Wildfire due to changes in fire activity, the PRRD has reduced the order to an evacuation alert for some areas.

As part of this change, residents from the following communities are able to return home but are still under an evacuation alert: Rose Prairie, Montney, Coffee Creek, Prespatou, Altona, Peejay, Osborn, Mile 62½, and the East side of Highway 97 from Wonowon to Mile 120

Communities no longer under an alert are the Northern sections of Charlie Lake (North of Highway 29 and 246 Road, south of Mile 62), North Pine and Pineview.

The following communities are still under an evacuation order: Buick Creek, Mile 70 and West Murdale.

These changes do not affect First Nations communities as they issue their own orders and alerts, according to the PRRD.

A number of changes have been made to the evacuation alert Area for the Red Creek and Stoddart Creek wildfires based on recommendations from BC Wildfire.

The Stoddart Creek wildfire grew by 500 hectares since Wednesday to approximately 22,067 hectares, according to the BCWS in an update on Thursday. The Red Creek wildfire hasn’t seen any growth in the last four days and remains at 2,947 hectares.
