Cobs Bread gives back

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Hardik Patel opened up Cobs Bread in June 2020 with his wife and has been helping to give back to the community ever since.

Patel and his wife moved to the Energetic City in 2013 and decided they wanted to be business owners, so they opened Cobs Bread.

Thanks to the community’s generosity, they have been able to give back in many significant ways.

All of their products are baked fresh, from scratch, seven days a week, and at the end of each day, they donate the unsold baked goods to local charities, including schools, churches and food banks, Patel explains.

He says their doughraiser program helps schools, sports clubs and many other non-profits in the community.

According to Patel, Cobs Bread Fort St. John is currently partnered with five local schools, three local sports clubs, and a few non-profit groups.

Customers can help them by simply mentioning the group at checkout, and Cobs will give five per cent of the sale to that group.

A recent doughraiser they held was for the BC SPCA and the store raised $1,600 for the organzation.

Funds were raised through community support, staff donating their tips, and the Annual Doughnation Day held on April 2nd, where $2 from each 6-pack of hot cross buns was given to the SPCA.

Last April, they raised over $500 for the North Peace Cultural Centre through the annual event.

For the upcoming Mother’s Day weekend, they are raising funds for the B.C Women’s Health Foundation.

A dollar from each scone sold on May 7th and 8th will be donated to the organzation.

In February, the store raised funds for community member Mike Melville, who has been undergoing cancer treatment, to help his family with medical expenses.

Cobs Bread would like to thank everyone for their support and contribution to their fundraising efforts.

The Patel family is also opening a Wok Box in the city.

Construction on the restaurant’s new location at 9317 96 Street, near Cobs Bread, started in December. The location could be opened as soon as the end of the month, however, a date has not been set.
