Holiday CounterAttack Roadchecks start today

As it is now December, ICBC is launching their roadchecks to prevent drinking and driving this Holiday season.

ICBC says that while attitudes toward drinking and driving have changed considerably over the years, 86 people in BC die each year as a result of car crashes relating to impaired driving.

During December, an average of four people are killed in related accidents.

From now until the end of December, RCMP will set up roadchecks in an attempt to keep the impaired drivers off our roads.

“We’ve made significant progress but too many people are still losing their lives due to impaired driving,” said Minister of Justice, Suzanne Anton. “CounterAttack remains a key part of our provincial enforcement strategy and further reducing crashes involving alcohol and drugs makes our roads safer for British Columbians.”

25 communities in BC are also part of the Operation Red Nose program, which offers rides to drivers who have been drinking or feel too tired to drive during the holidays.
