Elks skaters compete at international meet in Calgary
A small group of Fort St. John Elks speed skaters were in Calgary over the weekend for an international Can-Am competition featuring skaters from across Canada, the US and Europe.
The Calgary Olympic Oval is known for having the fastest ice in the world and the Elks performed well. There were over 70 skaters in each event, many of them seven years older than the Elks team.
Yuna Lovell had her best skate of the season with three personal records while knocking off five seconds in her 500 meters.
Amanda Mitchell skated season best and personal best in her three races and is a having a breakout season.
Josh Telizyn had a strong weekend also skating three personal and season best times.
Eryn Stickel continued her strong junior season matching the other Elks with season best times.
All four skaters will skate for Team BC in the Canadian Long Track Championships in Quebec City in early February and the upcoming BC Winter Games in late February.
