FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – With the current overdose crisis happening here in Northern B.C., one of the highest rates per capita in the province, the Women’s Resource Society has been doubling up on the Naloxone amounts in kits.

While on Moose Talks, Lisa Jewell, Outreach Coordinator at the Women’s Resource Society, says they’ve noticed an increase in the amount of Naloxone shots it takes for people to come back from a state of overdose. The kits usually have three shots, however, Jewell has been doubling up and adding six shots.

Jewell also mentions that the drugs here seem to be changing; first, the workers have been informed the drugs had a yellowish tint, but now they’ve been told it seems to be changing. They’ve heard it’s neon blue, green, and is supposed to be a downer substance.

Anyone interested in picking up a Naloxone kit can do so at the Women’s Resource Society, and Jewell mentions she is willing to teach how the kit is used.
