District of Tumbler Ridge campfire ban to be lifted Friday

TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. – The District of Tumbler Ridge will be rescinding the campfire ban within the municipal boundary.

According to a release from the District on Thursday, campfires within the boundaries of the municipality will be permitted starting at noon on Friday, August 27th.

Category 2 and Category 3 burns, however, are still not permitted. Category 2 and 3 open burning restrictions will stay in line with the Provincial Open Burning Restrictions that are in effect.

The District of Tumbler Ridge will also rescind the water use restrictions at noon on Friday, according to a release.

The region got some much-needed precipitation last weekend, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.

There are two wildfires of note in the Tumbler Ridge area. The Bear Hole Lake fire about 20 kilometres from Tumbler Ridge is currently being held, and it has burned around 2,769 hectares since August 6th.

The Tentfire Creek wildfire is also being held about 20 kilometres from Tumbler Ridge. It has burned approximately 3,148 hectares since June 30th.
