As of yesterday, September 9, 2015 Queen Elizabeth II is now the longest reigning monarch in British History.

Her grandmother, Queen Victoria, was the previous title holder, at 63 years and 216 days. She reigned from June 20th, 1837, to January 22nd, 1901.

To honour this milestone, a tea party was held at North Peace Seniors Housing Apartment, where Mayor Lori Ackerman served as MC.

Guest speaker Bill Stevenson remembered having great respect for the office of royalty as a member of the navy during the second world war.

The walls of the ceremony were also covered with old newspaper clippings from the Fort St. John area of media coverage in the time of Queen Elizabeth II’s ascent to the throne.

She started her reign on February 6th, 1952, but had her coronation on June 2nd, 1953.
