RCMP cruiser damaged in Friday collision likely a write-off

Luckily, no one in either accident sustained any life-threatening injuries, but the RCMP vehicle will likely be a write-off.

There were several accidents in the Peace Region that morning due to icy road conditions, and Sergeant Scott West admits it’s surprising there aren’t a higher number of incidents involving police vehicles each year.

“Bad roads and we’re going to the place where the roads are the worst, because that’s where they’re having the accidents, to get there to help people,” he explains. “It’s actually astounding we don’t end up in more accidents.”

The RCMP detachment is now waiting for damage estimates before deciding whether to replace or repair the SUV. When a police vehicle is damaged, the RCMP’s civil litigation department must also be contacted.
