It almost looked like magic, but there was neither smoke nor mirrors at a local elementary school on Monday morning.

Students at the Ecole Central School in Fort St. John were treated to a morning full of jaw-dropping science experiments from representatives of Science World.

Host Ivan Decker says the interactive science experiments teach kids about gas, energy, and ‘sporty science.’

The program is a collection of resources called BC PALS, or British Columbia Program for the Awareness and Learning of Science. BC PALS is funded by the Ministry of Education.

The first session of the day was called "It’s a Gas". Experiments focused on theories like Murphy’s Law, and ranged from firing a ‘rocket’ with air, vacuum-balloons, and sucking the air out of a marshmallow ‘astronaut’.

Co-host Stefano Giulianetti says the children at Ecole Central were extremely knowledgeable about each experiment.

The show was the first of three lessons on Monday. The hosts will next head north to schools in Wonowon and Fort Nelson.
