Court report: July 13 to July 17

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Below are the latest sentences handed down from the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek provincial courts between July 13 and July 17. 

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing on July 13

Ronnie Thomas Field (born 1969) 

Field was found guilty of fraud worth $5,000 or under on Nov. 19, 2024, in Fort St. John. 

They were handed a conditional sentence of four months, meaning it is a sentence to be served outside jail under strict conditions, sometimes called ‘house arrest.’

Field was also handed a 12-month probation order. 

Clayton Scott Garbitt (born 1985) 

Garbitt was found guilty of contravening an order under the B.C. Wildlife Act on Jan. 14, 2024, in Fort St. John. 

They were fined $500 and must pay a $75 victim surcharge, which helps victims.

Cody James Porter (born 1980) 

Porter was found guilty of theft worth $5,000 or under and breaching a release order on Nov. 9, 2024, and June 5, 2026, in Fort St. John. 

On another file number, Porter was found guilty of theft worth $5,000 or under on July 17, 2025, in Charlie Lake.

Porter was also found guilty of theft worth $5,000 or under on May 15, 2025, in Fort St. John. 

In another file, Porter was found guilty of breaching a release order on Mar. 6, 2026, in Fort St. John. 

They were handed a jail time-served sentence, which means the time Porter served in jail awaiting sentencing was counted toward his sentence. They were also handed an 18-month probation order.

Porter was also found guilty of being unlawfully in a dwelling house on Nov. 22, 2025, in Fort St. John. 

They were handed a jail-time served sentence; a secondary DNA order was issued, and Porter was ordered to report for sample collection. They were also handed an 18-month probation order.

William Charles Irvine (born 1980) 

Irvine was found guilty of mischief to property worth over $5,000 and assault with a weapon on Aug. 21, 2025, in Vancouver. 

They were sentenced to 13 days in jail and handed a 12-month probation order. 

In another file number, Irvine was found guilty of breaching an undertaking and assault on July 7 and 14, 2025, in Fort St. John. 

They were handed a jail time-served sentence and a 12-month probation order. Irvine was also handed a 12-month suspended sentence, with conditions to follow.

In another file number, Irvine was found guilty of mischief worth $5,000 or under on July 6, 2025, in Fort St. John.

They were handed a jail time-served sentence and a 12-month probation order. 

Irvine was also found guilty of assault on July 15, 2024, in Prince George. 

They were handed a jail time-served sentence and a 12-month probation order. 

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing on July 14

Maxwell John Quesnelle (born 1987) 

Quesnelle was found guilty of breaching an undertaking on April 21, 2025, in Fort Nelson. 

They were sentenced to time served in jail and must pay a $100 victim surcharge. 

In another file number, they were found guilty of breaching a release order, refusal and mischief on Oct. 28, 2025, in Fort Nelson. 

They were handed a conditional sentence of six months, were fined $1,000 and must pay a $400 victim surcharge.  

Travis Norman Walker (born 1987)

Walker was found guilty of theft worth $5,000 or under on Oct. 7, 2025, in Dawson Creek. 

They were sentenced to 30 days in jail. 

Joseph William Jeffrey Wason (born 1990) 

Wason was found guilty of breaching a probation order on June 23, 2025, in Dawson Creek. 

In another file number, Wason was found guilty of breaching a release order on Dec. 10, 2025, in Dawson Creek.

They were sentenced to jail time served.

Quinten Sawchuk (born 2002) 

For an incident in Chetwynd on Nov. 2, 2024, Sawchuk was ordered to enter into a 12-month, $100 peace bond.
