PRRD looks to rework virtual board member attendance
The Peace River Regional District is looking to adjust legislation around board member attendance virtually.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Peace River Regional District has announced this morning that it is considering amending a bylaw that allows staff to participate in meetings electronically.
According to a July 15 Facebook post, the bylaw, referred to as Bylaw No. 2607, 2026, would change how board members are allowed to participate in meetings. The amendment would only allow virtual participation in the event of illness or severe weather conditions that prevent safe travel, returning the board to how it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Formerly, board members were allowed to participate in meetings electronically for any reason, as long as they could be seen and heard.
The amendment also proposes adding an updated oath of office for elected officials to the procedure bylaw, which was previously included in a separate bylaw.Â
The proposed bylaw and staff report will be available on the Peace River Regional District website after 4:30 p.m. on Friday, July 17.Â
