Court report: June 29 to July 3

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Below are the latest sentences handed down from the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek provincial courts between June 29 and July 3. 

Fort St. John Provincial Court sentencing on June 29

Shayle Alice Thompson (born 1998) 

Thompson was found guilty of breaching a probation order and release order on Oct. 10, 2025 and Nov. 21, 2025, in Fort St. John. 

They were handed a one-year probation order. 

Thompson was found guilty of breaching a release order and a probation order on Jan. 12, 2026 and Feb. 2, 2026, in Fort St. John. 

They were handed suspended sentences, with Thompson placed on conditions and given a one-year probation order. 

Dawson Creek Provincial Court sentencing on June 29

Peter James Ayles (born 1980) 

Ayles was found guilty of two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance on June 18, 2022, and Oct. 13, 2022, in Dawson Creek. 

They were sentenced to two years in jail; a secondary DNA order was issued, and Ayles was subject to forfeiture, which allows the government to seize property or assets ‘tainted’ by a crime. 

Ayles was also handed a lifetime firearms prohibition. 

Brandon Roy Horne (born 1989) 

Horne was found guilty of mischief on Sept. 17, 2025, in Dawson Creek. 

They were handed a suspended sentence and a 12-month probation order.

Patricia Dawn Courtoreille (born 1985) 

Courtoreille was found guilty of assault on Sept. 9, 2024, in Chetwynd. 

They were handed a conditional discharge, which means the record won’t show a conviction if they meet the conditions set by the judge, and a 12-month probation order. 

In another file, Courtoreille was found guilty of driving with a prohibited or suspended licence on Jan. 26, 2025, in Chetwynd. 

They were sentenced to 14 days in jail, handed a one-year driving prohibition, fined $750, and must pay a $113 victim surcharge, which goes toward helping crime victims.

In another file, Courtoreille was found guilty of driving while prohibited on Jan. 25, 2025, in Chetwynd. 

They were fined $500, sentenced to 14 days in jail and handed a one-year driving prohibition. They must also pay a $75 victim surcharge. 

Melanie Catherine Gauthier (born 1982) 

Gauthier was found guilty of fear of harming an intimate partner or child on Oct. 20, 2025, in Moberly Lake. 

They were issued a recognizance of zero dollars after the allegation, with conditions to follow. 

Timothy Allen Mattson (born 1997)

Mattson was found guilty of impaired operation of a conveyance by alcohol or drug on Nov. 21, 2024, in Dawson Creek. 

They were fined $1,500, handed a 12-month driving prohibition and must pay a $450 victim surcharge.
