City of Fort St. John provides update on road closures

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City of Fort St. John has released an update on road closures across the city.

According to a July 6 Facebook post from the City of Fort St. John, “construction season is in full swing” which it said “unfortunately” means road closures.

In the Facebook post, the city provided updates on several current road closures.

99 Avenue is now closed between 98 Street and 100 Street. According to the City of Fort St. John website, it is undergoing a project to rebuild 99 Avenue between 98 and 100 Street, which includes reconstruction of new sidewalks, streetlights and a storm sewer. 

The city’s website said the 99 Avenue project has a budget of $2.24 million and is funded by the Peace River Agreement and Water and Sewer Reserves and is expected to be completed in fall 2026. 

Local access is now available off 110 Avenue during Peace River Road construction as work continues to rebuild Peace River Road between 110 and 112 Avenue, including new sidewalks, streetlights and a storm sewer.

The project has a budget of $3.75 million and also includes replacement of the current asbestos concrete water main, according to the city’s website. 

Crews are installing a water line which will result in the closure of 104 Street at 101 Avenue for “a few days,” the city said. 

According to the city’s website, the project to rebuild 101 Avenue from 104 to 106 Street is in the pre-construction phase and will be completed in Fall 2026.

The project, with a $2 million budget funded by the Peace River Agreement and Water and Sewer Reserves, will include road reconstruction with new sidewalks, streetlights and storm sewers in addition to the replacement of existing asbestos concrete water main.  

During a March 23 council meeting, the city approved two roadwork projects to rebuild and upgrade the roads in downtown Fort St. John, which included the Peace River Road Project. 

In April, Fort St. John City Council approved a Northern Legendary Construction tender submission to complete over $1 million in replacements of sidewalks throughout the city in 2026. 

The city has also designated numerous projects including road repairs and replacements of water mains as “capital projects.”
