Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society seeks food donations
The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society is speaking out about the society’s need for more food items.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Members of the Fort St. John community are being asked to step up and support a local organization in its time of need.
The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society is seeking food donations from the community to help restock its shelves.
Lilly Loichinger, outreach store coordinator at the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society, explained the society’s current need for food items.
“Our shelves are critically low; they’ve not been this low in quite a while,” she said. “It’s quite concerning for us.”
“We are just hoping over the month of July to fill them right on up so that we have enough [food] with all the children being home from school, that there will be enough snacks for them,” said Loichinger.
According to Loichinger, the society is seeking canned vegetables, stews, soups and anything that could help prepare a good meal, including Hamburger Helper.
For kid snacks, the society is accepting any kind of granola bar or fruit gummy snack, along with anything “slightly healthier.”

Food donations can be dropped off at the back of the outreach store at 9912 96th Ave from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Loichinger explained who relies on the items from the outreach store.
“We have a lot of low-income households, lots of grandparents taking care of their grandchildren, single mothers, single fathers, pretty much anyone who is low income,” she said.
“Our doors are wide open to help and support a wide variety of community members.”
Loichinger said it’s important for the society to ensure it has enough items for those who rely on the outreach store because “it’s a good way to make sure the entire community is strong” and that everyone is getting by okay.
“It helps support our youth as well, since we do have a lot of people that are just starting out and just their first place, or just moved in with roommates,” she said.
Loichinger said the outreach store saw 15,281 visits in 2025.
So far in 2026, the outreach store recorded its highest number of visits in May, at 2,300.
According to Loichinger, the outreach store is a “far-reaching program.”
“It reaches people with young children, with teenagers,” she said. “It supports a lot of our elderly community, which a lot of people do not know.”
“We also do have the men’s day every Wednesday that allows men to come in and seek support, which again a lot of people don’t know.”
Monetary donations to the Women’s Resource Society can be made online as well as at the society’s office at 9908 96th Ave.
