FORT NELSON, B.C. — A resident of the Lower Mainland has pleaded guilty to hunting moose outside of the open season.

According to a June 1st Facebook post by the B.C. Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS), Wing Kam Lau received a $7,000 fine and a three-year hunting ban after illegally killing a moose south of Fort Nelson.

The investigation was sparked by complaints received through the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) tip line regarding a partial bull moose carcass found on Klua Lake Road, according to BCCOS.

“This investigation led to several charges being laid and a conviction through guilty plea being obtained in Fort Nelson Provincial Court,” the post said.

As part of his sentence, Lau will pay a $6,998 fine to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation. He will also receive a province-wide three-year hunting ban and the forfeiture of all seized wildlife parts to the Crown.

The BCCOS said it thanks the public for reporting information to the RAPP tip line, and the Northern Rockies RCMP for assistance in ensuring evidence was collected and preserved.

BCCOS also reminds the public to report any activity they believe to be illegal related to hunting, fishing or polluting to the RAPP line by calling 1-877-952-7277.
