FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The north Peace region’s regional disc golf association will kick off spring with a tournament next week.

The 2026 Spring Fling tournament will be hosted by the Fort St. John Disc Sport Club and will take place on Saturday, May 9th, at the disc course at Toboggan Hill.

The idea of an inaugural tournament is driven by the goal of attracting more players to the sport of disc golf, said Disc Sport Club president Stephen Ford.

“A unique thing about Disc Golf is it’s the fastest growing sport in the world,” Ford told Energeticcity.ca. “We really get interest from new players all the time.”

“They’re interested in learning, and we’re helping along that journey.”

The two-round, one-day tournament will not include international ranking systems approved by the sport’s governing body, the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA).

Rather, the club is encouraging anyone from seasoned players to newcomers to participate. A $45 fee gets you entry, with $35 going toward membership in the Fort St. John Disc Golf Club for the season.

Entries can be made by an e-transfer to the club at fsjdsc.bc@gmail.com, and Ford says cash entries will be accepted on the day of the event.

Ford said there will be prizes and trophies for three divisions: advanced, intermediate, and beginner.  Included in the prize giveaway will be a $50 gift card toward the disc golf store Running Chains in Fort St. John.

“We want to try to make it more available for people in town to come out and say, ‘hey, there’s this thing going on. I’ve heard of disc golf,” said Ford. “We are accepting all skill levels.”

After the tournament, league play will begin on the evening of  Wednesday, May 13th.

The 2026 Spring Fling disc golf tournament, hosted by the Fort St. John Disc Sport Club, goes Saturday, May 9th, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Toboggan Hill Disc Course, located within Toboggan Hill Park at 8631 96th Avenue in Fort St. John.
