Step up ‘n’ Ride receives $12k at 100 Women Who Care Dawson Creek
The latest iteration of 100 Women Who Care Dawson Creek took place on Monday, April 20th.

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Dawson Creek’s 100 Women Who Care event announced its recipient of fundraising efforts this week.

The Step up ‘n’ Ride Society, which operates an accessible bus service, took home $12,400 at the event’s conclusion.

According to its website, it provides transportation for those with disabilities and others who may need assistance.
The other non-profits in the running included South Peace Search and Rescue and the South Peace District Crime Prevention Association.
Annette Jalbert, who co-founded the chapter within the community, told Energeticcity.ca the impact of funds distributed from these events is greater in smaller centres such as Dawson Creek.
“Because we are a smaller centre, there are fewer opportunities for us to be able to have the population to get that fundraising going,” Jalbert said. “For a lot of these groups, when we listen to them, they don’t have the capacity to get funds in other ways.”

The premise of the event is simple: women gather together for dinner at an admission of $100, with the funds raised from the evening going toward a local charity.
Each participant had to make a presentation about how the funds would benefit their organization, with attendees voting on the money’s final destination.
Additionally, fellow co-founder of 100 Women Who Care Dawson Creek Chante Patterson-Elden, said it was the second time Step Up ‘n’ Ride had received funds in the last 10 years, having received funds in 2016.
Patterson-Elden added the initiative has raised $235,000 since its inception in 2016.
Seen as a grassroots fundraising event, the first 100 Women Who Care was in Michigan, USA in 2006.
100 Women Who Care Dawson Creek holds biannual events in the spring and fall. The next event will take place in October.
