FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The city is installing and replacing two sewer mains serving the city to the tune of more than $1 million.

During its April 13th meeting, the City of Fort St. John council approved a tender for sanitation infrastructure upgrades in Mathews Park and 112th Street.

Specifically, the city will install a sewer main in the laneway between 84th and 87th Avenue and 91st and 90th Street near Mathews Park, and replace a sewer main on 112th Street between 102nd and 103rd Avenue.

According to staff, these projects were postponed while the city prioritized approximately $650 million in emergency upgrades and repairs to the Garrison Lift Station in 2025.

The staff report detailed the 2026 sanitary upgrade project would cost approximately $1.12 million, and after council approval was received, the project was awarded to S. Young Enterprises of Fort St. John.

“This tender did come in slightly above the budgeted amount, however this is offset by other capital projects which have come in under budget,” staff noted in the report.

The surplus is the result of a $120,000 contingency allowance, and staff state they will “endeavour to manage” to keep the work within budget.
