Whether it be following his dad’s band, the East Coast Riders, while they were on tour or watching his grandparents play at local bars and venues in Fort St. John, music has always been a big part of his life.

When McKearney was 11 years old, he picked up his first guitar. Ever since that moment, he has been writing songs.

McKearney released his first single Devil Water in February 2021. More than five years later, his latest single Rearview has been streamed over 50,000 times.

“Actually,” McKearney said.  “I was very excited and kind of overwhelmed with gratitude.” When asked about his reaction to his song being in the top 50.

Rearview is the first single on McKearney’s newest album, Wildflower.

Another single on the album is expected to be released in April. Once the entire album is released early next year, it will be his fourth studio album.

With much of his inspiration coming back to Fort St. John, McKearney says the city will always hold a special place in his heart.

“I talk about Fort St. John at every single one of my shows. I talk about growing up there and how it molded me,” McKearney said. “I always refer back to it. I love coming home.”

McKearney praised the community aspect of Fort St. John as what helped shape him into the musician he is today.

“It’s kinda in the middle of nowhere. It’s this pocket of all these really interesting, awesome people,” McKearney continued. “We work hard there. It’s different from anywhere else I’ve lived or anywhere else I’ve been. I think just the work ethic and ‘seize the day’ attitude there really helped shape what I write about.”

Rearview sits 50th on the top 50 list, alongside songs like Zach Top’s, South of Sanity, Chevy Silverado by Bailey Zimmerman and House Again by Hudson Westbrook.

Ella Langley’s hit song Choosin’ Texas once again takes the top spot on the chart.
