FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Hospital emergency department has re-opened after closing overnight due to “staffing challenges.”

According to a Facebook post by Northern Health, the emergency room closed from 9 p.m. on February 6th to 7 a.m. on February 7th.

During this time, residents in need of life-threatening emergency care were encouraged to call 911 for transportation to the nearest available medical facility.

Anyone in need of non-life-threatening medical treatment was encouraged to contact their primary care provider or the Northern Health Virtual Clinic.

The post also detailed emergency room statuses “may change abruptly,” and the social media post “could be outdated” by the time it is viewed.

In January, the health authority launched a webpage to track the status of emergency rooms and health centres across the region.
