FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Applications are now open for the second annual Northern Angel Summit.

The summit, presented by Northern Innovation Network, aims to train new innovators to pitch their ideas effectively, secure funding and grow their businesses.

The competition begins on March 23rd and culminates with a live finale on June 26th at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre, where one founder will receive up to $100,000 in investment following the final round of pitches.

The inaugural competition saw Fort St. John-based company Squiggly Things advance to the finals before ultimately being beaten by Prince George’s Open Waters Solar.

Organizers say the summit is designed to strengthen the region’s capital ecosystem by keeping investment, innovation and economic growth rooted in northern B.C.

“The Northern Angel Summit has demonstrated that northern B.C. has both the entrepreneurial talent and the investor interest needed to build a strong regional capital ecosystem,” said Mary Mytting, executive director of Northern Innovation Network.

“This program is creating real pathways to funding while keeping capital, innovation and economic growth rooted in the north.”

Up to 24 founders and 20 angel investors will be accepted into the program.

Founders receive hands-on support focused on attracting capital, refining pitches, building investor relationships and scaling their businesses.

Angel investors participate directly in reviewing deals and making investment decisions, while receiving guidance from experienced investors.

Quarter-final and semi-final pitch events will be held in a hybrid format, with in-person locations in both Prince George and Fort St. John, as well as virtual access via Zoom.

New this year is an Innovation Showcase at the June 26th finale.

All 24 participating founders will be featured in a trade show, allowing them to present their innovations even if they do not advance to the final six on-stage pitches.

Moose Media, the parent company of Energeticcity.ca, is a sponsor of the Northern Angel Summit competition.

Tickets for the finale are available through the summit’s website. Tickets are priced at $85 until May 1st, at which point they cost $95.

Applications for founders are accepted until March 16th, while angel applications are accepted until March 20th.
