It has also partnered with the Tse’k’wa Heritage Society to host an event for Family Literacy Week on January 30th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Boyd explained the society hopes to “encourage persons to spend time with each other, teach each other different things [and] read stories to their kids, which helps to develop their brain from a tender age to have interest in different things.”

Boyd said the community has responded positively to the literacy week events.

“A lot of residents have looked forward [to it] and I’m expecting more people to be able to participate in the event,” she noted. “It’s also an opportunity for us to get out of the house, to take a second away from our regular day-to-day lives [and] be able to spend some meaningful time [together].”

The events are free to the public, although some will need pre-registration.

“[This is] to ensure we are able to prepare sufficient items for the persons who are coming,” Boyd shared.
