HUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. — A candlelight vigil honouring the late Lexi Waldie Siemens will go ahead as planned, according to her mother.

Elisha Waldie told Energeticcity.ca that, despite reports of the vigil honouring her daughter being postponed, her planned memorial event will take place at Beattie Park in Hudson’s Hope on Tuesday, January 13th.

Lexi passed away just after the new year by suicide. Her mother said in a statement to Energeticcity.ca afterward that her daughter was “a happy, healthy, social, beautiful, bright light.”

Lexi’s passing followed the death of another youngster, who was described by the Fort St. John Minor Hockey Association as passing “unexpectedly” during the holiday break.

After receiving the statement from Waldie, Energeticcity.ca only identified Lexi and not the other youth out of respect for family and loved ones who are grieving.

Waldie said in a Facebook post she “hopes to see the support and love from the community as a gathering to honour my baby girl.”

The gathering will begin at 6 p.m. at Beattie Park.
