Quantum computing firm Photonic raises $180M in latest financing round

VANCOUVER — Quantum computing company Photonic Inc. says it has raised $180 million in its latest financing round which included Royal Bank of Canada and Telus as new investors.

The Vancouver-based company says existing investors – including BCI and Microsoft – also participated in the round led by Planet First Partners.

Photonic is developing commercial-scale quantum computers and quantum networks.

Barrie Laver, managing director and head of venture capital and private equity with Royal Bank, says it’s the bank’s first direct equity investment in a quantum computing company.

Laver says Photonic has the potential to unlock key applications in the financial sector, ranging from security through to portfolio optimization and risk modelling.

Photonic says it has raised a total of $375 million.
