City approves $8M contract for construction on new water reservoir
The City of Fort St. John council has approved a construction contract for just under $8 million for a replacement water reservoir for the 106th street.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The city council has sealed the deal on its new water reservoir that is coming to Fort St. John in the new year.
During the December 8th regular council meeting, the council approved a construction contract of just under $8 million for a new water reservoir on 106th Street.
The contract was awarded to Chandos Construction from Edmonton, Alberta, and will see the company installing a new, $3.15 million water tank, which was approved by the council in September.
Work on the city’s ‘once in a lifetime project’ began in February, with the city hiring Chandos Construction in June to design the new reservoir for $13,959.
At this time, the project is expected to cost approximately $8.54 million, which is approximately $46,280 over the city’s $8.5 million budget. The budgetary deficit will be covered by a $100,000 transfer from finances initially allocated to ‘water reserves’ by the city.
Prior to the start of construction, which was estimated to occur sometime in “early 2026” by staff in September, communications will be issued to the public by the city, with “direct communication” going to “immediate neighbours” of the project.
