FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The city is moving forward with the “once-in-a-lifetime” project of replacing the 106th Street water reservoir.

During the City of Fort St. John council’s June 9th meeting, councillors reviewed a report on the progress for the 106th Street Water Reservoir.

The city began considering the replacement reservoir on 106th Street in February, and has since begun the process of designing the new reservoir prior to construction.

The city has hired Chandos Construction, a construction company based in Edmonton, Alberta, and paid $13,950 for the company to design the new reservoir.

The city intends for the new reservoir to use as much infrastructure from the current reservoir, and to construct the new one on the same property.

This would include installing piping from the old reservoir to the new one to mitigate the impact of the project on residents.

According to the report, the project is in the pre-construction phase, and design meetings are scheduled to continue throughout June, with Chandos submitting a final price to the city in “summer 2025.”

The company also estimates a tentative construction start of “fall 2025 or spring 2026,” depending on the city’s decision on the price, with construction estimated to be completed by “fall 2026.”
