‘Serious injury’ reported at energy worksite near Fort St. John

NorthRiver Midstream says three people were injured near Fort St. John and it is cooperating with investigations by both WorkSafeBC and the CER.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Three workers were injured at a NorthRiver Midstream worksite near Fort St. John.

In a brief statement, the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) said its inspection officers were deployed on December 10th to follow up on a “serious injury” at the worksite.

In a news release, NorthRiver Midstream confirmed an incident occurred that day, triggering the company’s corporate emergency response plan and prompting attendance from the RCMP.

According to the company, three workers were hurt, taken to hospital for assessment and later released the same day.

Ashley Gregerson, media and government relations advisor at WorkSafeBC, told Energeticcity.ca it was notified at 10:40 a.m. on December 10th of a “serious workplace incident.”

“A WorkSafeBC officer attended the scene and is working with the employers,” Gregerson said.

NorthRiver Midstream says work at the site was immediately suspended, and the company is cooperating with investigations by both WorkSafeBC and the CER.

“This is all the information available at this time,” NorthRiver Midstream said, noting additional details will be provided as they become available.

No further information about the nature of the incident or the work being done at the site has been released as of December 11th.
