More than 1,000 impacted by Fort St. John power outage have been notified, BC Hydro assures

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. —  Anyone who may be impacted by a significant power outage in Fort St. John should now have been notified.

According to BC Hydro’s outage list page, 1,148 customers will have their electricity shut off on November 29th between 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Specifically, this includes customers in the areas around 88th Street, 89th Street, 90th Street, 91st Street, 92nd Street, 93rd Street, 94th Street, 97th Street, 104th Avenue, 105th Avenue, 106th Avenue, 107th Avenue, 108th Avenue, 109th Avenue, 110th Avenue, 111th Avenue, 112th Avenue, 113th Avenue, 114th Avenue, 115th Avenue, 116th Avenue, 117th Avenue, 118th Avenue, 103A Avenue, 107A Avenue, 113A Avenue, 114A Avenue, 86A Street, 88A Street and 89A Street as well as Princess Crescent.

The outage is to allow BC Hydro crews to replace a pole on a corner along a distribution line.

Bob Gammer, BC Hydro’s northern community relations manager, told Energeticcity.ca customers in the affected area will have received a recorded phone message with “details to notify them that they will experience an outage,” as well as postcards with the same information.

He said the outage zone is roughly inside a square bordered by 103A Avenue, 86A Street, 118th Avenue and 97th Street.

“Generally, we don’t give out specific addresses, or maps, to the public for security reasons as we don’t want to advertise what areas will be without power or security systems,” Gammer said.

Previously, a BC Hydro employee has told Energeticcity.ca power outages due to pole replacements and maintenance could be postponed or rescheduled if there are bad winter weather conditions.
