FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A local business has launched a fundraiser to support the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society (FSJWRS) throughout November.

As part of The Lippy Lemon’s annual ‘Muffs for Mitts’ fundraiser, clients who bring in a $50 gift card from a local business to donate to the FSJWRS will receive their entire Brazilian sugaring service for free.

Sugaring is a natural hair removal method that uses a paste made from sugar, water and lemon juice. Lippy Lemon says it is a gentler alternative to waxing because it adheres only to hair rather than skin, reducing irritation and discomfort.

According to The Lippy Lemon in an Instagram post, the initiative aims to support both the FSJWRS and local businesses. Donated gift cards allow the society to purchase items for those in need or to distribute the cards directly to individuals and families in the community.

“The [FSJWRS] helps men, women and children in our community receive the necessities and resources they need without judgment or prejudice,” the post said.

“They rely heavily on donations from our community, especially near the holidays.”

The Lippy Lemon said gift cards for clothing, personal care and food are among the most helpful.

Suggested retailers include Mark’s, Warehouse One, Steel Toes, Ernie’s Sports Experts, the Hair Bin, Studio 105, Bloom Salon and Spa, Nature’s Way Spa and Wellness, Beauty Boutique by Shoppers Drug Mart, No Frills, Save-On-Foods, Safeway, Walmart and The Butcher Block.

All gift cards must be valued at $50 and include proof of purchase.

For those who want to help but aren’t interested in the sugaring promotion, The Lippy Lemon encourages individuals to volunteer or donate directly to FSJWRS at any time during the year.
