Energeticcity.ca is not only the largest newsroom in northeast BC, we are also one of the only independent media outlets left in the province. Last week, owner of Moose Media Adam Reaburn was in Ottawa for Press Forward’s Future of Independent Media Summit. Here is what he had to say about the event:

“I was in Ottawa for Press Forward’s Future of Independent Media Summit, where we discussed how newsrooms like ours are building sustainable models in challenging times. The event began with a Senate roundtable with Senator Andrew Cardozo, who recently launched an inquiry into the future of Canadian news media and long-term funding. It was an important conversation about the realities faced by small outlets across the country.

At Carleton University, I joined a panel on the new funding environment for newsrooms. I also had the opportunity to share how we’re growing our newsroom at Moose Media by funding journalism through the advertising services we offer local businesses.

After this week, one thing is clear, independent newsrooms are not waiting for the future of journalism; we’re building it.”
