Former Fort St. John teacher barred from profession after child porn investigation

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A former teacher in Fort St. John has agreed to never professionally teach again in B.C. following a child pornography investigation.
Devin Roy Gray, who taught at Margaret ‘Ma’ Murray Community School, reportedly signed a consent agreement with the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation this year.
“Gray allowed his device and email address to be used to access child pornography,” the agreement reads. “Child pornography directly and indirectly harms children. His conduct undermines public confidence in the profession.”
According to the agreement, in December 2020, sexual images of elementary school-aged children were posted to a Tumblr account.
That account, and the email address associated with it, were reportedly linked to an IP address for Gray’s residence. The document also indicates Gray was the “authorized user” of the email address.
RCMP officers obtained and executed a search warrant at Gray’s address on February 20th, 2021.
Multiple electronic devices were seized by police, one of which reportedly contained “over 500 photos and videos of children, believed to be between the ages of three and 13.”

According to the document, some of the pictures posted to Tumblr in 2020 were found on the drive, and some of the images were consistent with the Criminal Code of Canada’s definition of child pornography.
“The device belonged to Gray,” the agreement reads. “The profile on the device used Gray’s name and there was no other profile on the device. The device had many files using Gray’s name in the document or folder name, including Gray’s resume, as well as materials related to teaching, and Gray’s emails.”
The document also says someone else living at the residence identified the device as belonging to Grey and only ever used by him.
A few months later, on April 16th, 2021, Gray was arrested at the school, although ultimately the Crown did not approve charges against him.
School District 60 — the district that governs Ma Murray Elementary School — placed Gray on administrative leave the day of his arrest, and on May 4th, 2021, he was suspended and the school submitted a report to the commissioner regarding the incident.
In June 2021, the commissioner ordered an investigation into Grey and he agreed not to teach in the K-12 education system while that investigation remained ongoing in July 2021.
In the years since, the document says Grey failed to provide fingerprints to the Criminal Records Review Program despite the program writing to him twice as of September 12th, 2024.
It also says his certificate of qualification to teach was suspended, and ultimately cancelled, due to failing to pay fees in 2024.
The document indicates Grey has admitted to “conduct unbecoming” and has agreed to never apply for a new certificate of qualification, independent school teaching certificate or similar authorization to teach in the K-12 education system.
The document was signed by Gray on July 15th, 2025, and by acting commissioner Donnaree Nygard on September 2nd, 2025.
