‘Horrified’: Local politicians react to death of Conservative pundit Charlie Kirk

Both Peace River-Prince George-Northern Rockies MP Bob Zimmer and Peace River North MLA Jordan Kealy reacted to the death of Charlie Kirk on social media on September 10th.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Local politicians are sending their condolences to the family and loved ones of conservative pundit Charlie Kirk.

Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA who amassed 3.93 million followers on YouTube, was killed on Wednesday, September 10th after being shot during a university event in Utah.

Peace River-Prince George-Northern Rockies MP Bob Zimmer posted to his Facebook page, calling the act a “sad day for freedom of speech.”

His post reads: “Our prayers go out to his family. May Charlie rest in peace and his killer be brought to justice.”

Peace River North MLA Jordan Kealy said he was “horrified” by the news on his X (formerly known as Twitter) page.

He added Kirk “was a great man and is remembered for advocating that life is precious.”

Kirk died at age 31. He is survived by his wife Erika Kirk and two children.

A guy who found his calling later in life, Edward Hitchins is a professional storyteller with a colourful and extensive history.

Beginning his journey into journalism in 2012 at Seneca College, Edward also graduated from Humber College with an Advanced Diploma in Print and Broadcast Journalism in 2018.  After time off from his career and venturing into other vocations, he started his career proper in 2022 in Campbell River, B.C.

Edward was attracted to the position of Indigenous Voices reporter with Energeticcity as a challenge.  Having not been around First Nations for the majority of his life, he hopes to learn about their culture through meaningful conversations while properly telling their stories. 

In a way, he hopes this position will allow both himself and Energeticcity to grow as a collective unit as his career moves forward and evolves into the next step.

He looks forward to growing both as a reporter and as a human being while being posted in Fort St. John.
