FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Peace Gallery North’s latest exhibition is set to feature a mixed-media showcase inspired by the artist’s upbringing.

Julene Gunther was raised on a farm in Saskatchewan, and drew influence for her upcoming The Sky’s The Limit exhibition from her memories of the sky at home.

“I really loved seeing the sunrises [and] the sunsets,” Gunther said in an interview during the August 29th episode of This Week in the Peace.

“I’ve always had a real fascination with skies, and I like painting them. They’re actually kind of hard, I find it a little hard to get the feeling I want to show people, but I do enjoy it.”

Gunther began taking art seriously in 2019. A friend of hers joined the Flying Colours Artists’ Association and invited her to take part as well, inspiring her to start focusing on her work.

In the years since joining, she’s taken part in various group art shows with the association. One of its organizers approached Gunther in 2022 with the idea of a solo exhibition at the gallery, and she’s been working on material for September’s showcase since then.

The exhibition will be made up of a mix of acrylic and oil paintings, as well as collage pieces, glass-in-resin artwork and one ‘encaustic’ painting created with hot wax.

All but one piece will be for sale throughout the exhibition, which lasts from September 5th to 27th. An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, September 5th at Peace Gallery North from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The reception will be free to attend and won’t require advance registration.
