Semi-truck crash causes delays on Highway 97 near Chetwynd

CHETWYND, B.C. — Part of Highway 97 southbound between Powder King Mountain Resort and Bijoux Falls is currently experiencing delays.

According to RCMP media relations officer Madonna Saunderson, a single-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck took place in the area at 9:22 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19th.

Saunderson said no injuries have been reported at the moment, but a part of the truck is currently blocking the highway.

“The tanker truck is blocking the southbound lane, so of course, you’ve got one direction blocked,” Saunderson said. “[It] doesn’t look like anybody’s injured.”

A representative from Argo Road Maintenance – the company responsible for maintaining highways in the South Peace and the surrounding area – told Energeticcity.ca that a crew is en route for clean up and an assessment of the situation remains in progress.

DriveBC shows a portion of the highway has been reduced to single-lane alternating traffic as a result of the collision. The next update on the situation is expected to come at 6 p.m.

This comes soon after a woman died in a collision in the Bijoux Falls area on August 16th.
