North Peace Cultural Centre installs long-awaited safety railings
A representative from the North Peace Cultural Centre says the railings were suggested about a decade ago.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The North Peace Cultural Centre (NPCC) is installing safety railings on its roof, a project staff say has been in the works for a decade.
“It’s definitely been something that we’ve talked about for about a decade, at least,” a staff member, who would prefer not to be named, told Energeticcity.ca.
They said the idea first came from city employees who perform maintenance on the roof, where the furnace units are located. While the roof was already up to code, workers felt additional measures were needed for enhanced fall protection.
“They thought there could be some more safety measures implemented, especially with the system they use with harnesses to clip onto so they don’t fall off the roof,” the staff member explained.
“Safety is very important, no matter who it is, whether it’s us, whether it’s the city, whether it’s contractors,” executive director Oliver Hachmeister added.
Work is expected to be completed before the end of the day on August 11th, the NPCC said.
No specific reasons were provided for why the project took a decade to come to fruition.
