“Crews are halfway through gravel prep around the site and curbs are complete on the west side,” the update reads. “Trenching for site lighting is progressing which will enhance safety and accessibility across the property.”
Roofing and steel framing for the north entrance canopy and ambulance bay are complete, and on the outside of the facility, the installation of insulation, padding, brick veneer and parapet cap flashing is still ongoing.
“Inside the facility, framing is now complete on all three levels. Drywall installation, mudding and taping are well underway throughout.”
Ceiling framing and top skirting are also well underway, and levels one and two are undergoing priming, painting and flooring, while mechanical and electrical systems are installed in the basement, penthouse and main electrical rooms.

In terms of the future of the project, the exterior shell of the new hospital is reportedly expected to be complete by the fall.
Some time in August, mockups of typical inpatient and bariatric rooms will be created, allowing clinical users to walk through the space before the design is finalized and implemented across the facility.
“These mock-ups help identify any design or layout issues to ensure the rooms are efficient and comfortable for both patients and staff,” the update reads. “This hands-on approach supports better decision-making and ensures the final spaces meet the needs of those who will use them every day.”
The new Dawson Creek and District Hospital is on track to open in the spring of 2027. This is the first progress update on the new facility shared by Northern Health since April.
The new facility will be over 50 per cent larger than the city’s current hospital, with 24 additional beds for patients, five new treatment spaces in its emergency department and more.
