Foundry seeks input on design of new health and wellness centre coming to Fort St. John

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A local charity is set to hold an engagement workshop for newcomer families this week. 

According to Asuncion Sta. Maria, community development and project lead with Foundry Fort St. John, the organization is developing a new health and wellness centre and is seeking community input at the design stage.

The Space Design Workshop is open to newcomer families who have moved to Canada in the last five years, permanent/temporary residents, protected persons, work permit holders, students, refugees and refugee claimants.

“Our goal is to ensure the design and functionality of the centre reflects the needs of youth and families in our community,” said Sta. Maria.

The new centre would be 6,000–7,000 square feet and provide health and wellness services for people aged 12 to 24, their families and caregivers. 

“Services at the future Foundry Fort St. John may include physical and sexual healthcare, mental health support, substance use services, peer support and social services,” said Sta. Maria.

The free workshop will be held on Saturday, July 26th from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Microtel Inn and Suites in Fort St. John.

Foundry Fort St. John will be operated by YMCA BC.
