Wildfire south of Fort Nelson River now ‘being held’

A wildfire burning near the Fort Nelson river has been downgraded from ‘out of control’ to ‘being held’ by the BC Wildfire Service.

FORT NELSON, B.C. — A wildfire burning near the Fort Nelson river has been downgraded from ‘out of control’ to ‘being held’ by the BC Wildfire Service.

According to the latest update on the BCWS website, the wildfire has had its designation changed, meaning it’s expected to stay within its current boundaries.

The fire — an overwintering blaze from a previous season — was found to have reignited on May 28th.

So far, it’s burned 12,423 hectares. 

No evacuation alerts or orders as a result of the blaze are currently active, with an order issued by Fort Nelson First Nation lifted in June.

but the fire was reported to have grown as recently as July 15th.
