FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John’s 4-H Achievement Days festival organizer has been named Co-op Community Champion for July.

Angela Briltz, North Peace District 4-H club advertising coordinator, was nominated for her efforts in the 2025 North Peace 4-H Achievement Days festival, which included a farmers’ market and a kids’ zone.

Described as ‘the biggest show yet,’ this year’s festival saw 60 club members display over 100 animals, including 50 beef animals such as steers, cow calves and heifers.

According to Briltz’s nomination letter, she “played a huge part in making the 4-H Achievement Days a success.”

“She spent countless hours making sure the kids had a successful weekend, she organized a local market and a kids’ club so that there was something for everyone,” said the letter.

“If it wasn’t for the work behind the scenes that Angela put in, the weekend would not have been what it was, a huge success.”

Briltz couldn’t help but tear up after hearing her nomination letter.

“I am honoured that someone felt that I put in lots or extra [work] … I’m kind of speechless,” said Briltz.

Although Briltz was grateful for her recognition, she also credited others for making the festival happen.

“I can’t say that my efforts made all the difference because I know there [were] a lot of people putting in a lot of work,” said Briltz.

Briltz, who was in the 4-H club as a child as well as her own kids, described how much she loves the program and what it does for children.

“It’s a hands-on-based program, there’s so much learning involved, friendships made, travel opportunities, scholarships,” she explained.

“There’s so much that this program offers and I’m just honoured to be part of it.”

Briltz said she will continue playing a key part in the 4-H festival in the coming years.
